Description of the flag

A 2-sided flag measuring approximately 52" x 40", including the 2 1/4" gold fringe that surrounds 3 sides, for the U.S. "5th Special Forces Group". The flag has a green[ish blue] body with a beautifully embroidered American Eagle displaying a ribbon in its beak the reads "DE OPPRESS LIBER" and a ribbon below that reads "FIRST SPECIAL FORCES". The gorgeous polychromatic eagle has a large white shield on its chest bearing a WWII era OSS stiletto. Above the eagle, are crossed arrows over a black and white rope. The robust American Eagle grasps 13 arrows in one talon and a large gracefully articulated olive branch in the other. The upper left corner has a circle enclosing a "5" denoting the 5th SFG. This flag traveled to Vietnam with the 5th SFG and remained in country until 1971. There is a hidden flagpole sleeve at the non-fringe side. (photo: Poulin Auctions)
